Services

Backend, Front end
WISE Employment offers free government-funded services to empower jobseekers living with disability. WISE approached us to help them build a browser-based app that can help blue-collar employees living with disabilities to secure gainful employment and avoid being exploited. We had as our objectives helping WISE complete the development of the app, build a front-end mobile interface for their DES portal, and supply architectural and development services directed by one product manager.

The Situation

WISE Employment is one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit employment services providers. It’s also a dedicated employment agency for disability employment services (DES), jobactive, social enterprises, NDIS supports, occupational rehabilitation, training, mental health programmes, graduate disability employment, and specialist job seeker and employer programmes and services.

WISE offers a range of integrated programmes and services, including free government-funded employment services that aim to empower disabled job seekers to become self-sufficient. WISE has proudly been helping people who have disabilities, injuries or health conditions into employment since 1992.

In 2019, WISE approached us to help them deliver a browser-based app that could help blue-collar employees living with disabilities secure gainful employment and protect them from exploitation. Before the pandemic, this service was rendered face-to-face at WISE’s offices across Australia. However, the DES was moved online with COVID-19-imposed social distancing and the work-from-home mandate. The project had a turnaround time of 6 months, and WISE realised that they did not have sufficient in-house capacity to deliver the project on time.

The Objectives

WISE partnered with us to help them:
  • Complete the development of a government-funded browser-based app.

  • Build a front-end mobile interface for their DES portal

  • Build a dynamic form builder with conditional logic to facilitate input from users in different contexts.

  • Supply architectural and development services directed by one product manager.

  • WISE took care of the backend, concept design, project management, and quality assurance.

The Solution

The logic that supported the choice to develop a browser-based web app was that 99% of people in Australia own a mobile phone and can access the app from their phones despite it being web-based. The DES portal used a questionnaire built using the dynamic form builder mentioned above and using contexts such as the different job specs based on users’ answers and type of disability.

Using Angular to build the dynamic form meant that the current version will:
1. Evolve to support a wider variety of questions.
2. Deliver more elegant rendering and offer a superior user experience when required.
3. Use custom business logic when building the form will keep users focused and able to meet their unique user needs.
4. Easily display or hide questions or question group

The Results

We turned the project around in a very short amount of time – in only 3 months – with one of our developers providing additional services for a further month after the completion of the project. The end product was a very user-friendly and intuitive frontend mobile interface that was accessible through a normal browser such as Chrome and on mobile. It successfully served the needs of its specific user base.

Our partnership with WISE again highlighted what can be achieved when expert knowledge is combined with a drive for customer satisfaction. WISE acknowledged our field-specific expertise and, by joining forces, we delivered an exceptional end product that will help the most vulnerable in society. All in a day’s work!
