Simply put, IoT is an acronym for the Internet of Things. For me, connection is at the heart of IoT.
Just as the mobile phone connects us to the people we love through a device that fits in our pocket, IoT will connect us to our homes, our cars and the devices that we use in our daily work.
Take a quick look around you. How many devices are there? How many connections can be made to make life easier, safer and less chaotic?
A fridge that orders milk and bread, lights and a music device that come on to ensure you come home to a safe and welcoming space. For farmers, a way to ensure crops have the right amount of water and the cows are safely in the pasture. For the new parent, a device to connect them to their newborn and monitor their safety.

By 2020, it is expected that 26 billion devices will be part of IoT. Some people believe that 26 billion connections is an impossible amount, but take another look around you and think of your journey to where you sit right now. You woke up and turned on your lights, you brushed your teeth with an electric toothbrush, you opened your fridge for milk, toasted your bread, made coffee, all while wearing a device that tracks your steps, monitors your sleep rhythm and keeps you connected to your loved ones through messaging services.
In this way, IoT brings the physical world and digital world together.
